Warning: Long post.

Alright, before I start on the STEP trip, shall backtrack and post about the long outdated entry of my post-birthday celebrations. KBOX-ing with Yanyi, Sharm and Sylvia.

So met up with them after math extra lessons at 1pm. Everyone was late, lol. Okay, Yanyi was the earliest for once, shall give her credit for that. And I had lunch, but we didn't have time to take the neos before going kbox, so decided to take after it.

Went up to kbox a little earlier than 2pm and went in. The room they gave us was the standard size, no super big rooms. But had a few balloons hanging on the ceiling and stuff. So we started to sing!

Nothing much about the singing, just that Sharm and Yanyi were totally mad when they were in the room doing sit-ups when it was me and Sylvia singing. Super amusing can ._. And the 3 of them ganged up and sprayed me with party spray all over. Then the personnel brought in a birthday cake for my celebration.

Then we tried using my phone's timer to take a group photo.

And finally succeeded on take 3.

So this is what 5 hours of singing does to you, like Sylvia says - Itchy throat, LOL. I felt alright, though. Somehow the mood wasn't there during the whole session, maybe it was because the actual event was already over.

Then we went to take neoprints, and took eons to decorate it. I swear I have never taken longer, but the end products were really nice. And we went to enlarge it to A4 size and colour photocopied it so everyone could get one copy.

Then we split and went home. Thanks girls for spending 28th May with me, and again, everyone else who'd made my 16th birthday great and memorable, and not to mention, sweet.

STEP 2008

3105 - Saturday Singapore // Thailand [Kanchanaburi]
The first day I am spending in Thailand didn't start off well, I suppose. Woke up early morning and did a final check of my luggage, and set off for the airport by 5.40am, picking Jin up along the way. Spent a long time waiting around for everyone in the airport, probably because we reached earlier than the designated time and finally, checked in.

My group consisted of Chernyi, our group I/C, Yuhui, Calvin, Ayesha and Pamela. I thought it was rather bad because I was separated from my close friends and thrown into this group where apart from Chernyi, I knew no one. Kind of like OBS yea =/ So boarded the plane, and arrived in Thailand at about 10.50am Singapore time, and Thailand time 9.50am. They are an hour behind us. Collected luggage and the standard, went for a 2 hour long bus ride to Kanchanaburi.

First stop, the Kanchanaburi War Cemetry, where something creepy happened to me. I didn't take any pictures of the place because of it. I was just trying to use my camera, where everyth I captured turn out red. And it looks like it has a patch of something blocking in front of it. I tried again and again, but I still got the same thing, and I started to get freaked out so I decided not to take anymore pictures and dismissed it as a technical problem of my camera.

So walked around and was melting under the super hot sun until we returned to the bus. Was still freaked out at my camera that I kept wanting to try but do not dare to try it, lol.

And then we went to a World War 2 museum. And I tried my camera again, ands it worked, everyth was back to normal. No more red tint, no more patches. Damn creepy ._. So took a few pictures there. Make some comparisons with Singapore museums, it's open air, non air-conditioned.

Had some free time to roam around their market by the River Kwai. There's the famous Death Railway built over it from WW2 period. Then returned to the hotel.

Went back to the hotel, crawling with lizards and flies of all sorts. Requested for a room change and bunked in with Josephine, Angel and Sylvia.

0106 - Sunday Thailand [Kanchanaburi // Bangkok]
Second day. Early morning after breakfast, took the bus to Nam Tok train station to catch a train on the Death Railway. We had a few hours or so to spend before the scheduled train arrives. So walked around the place with others.

The train took really long to come and the whole bunch of us just sat there playing games while waiting for the train to come. The train finally came at 11.15am and most of our first reactions were 'no air-con?!', haha. Ohwell, the ride was really bumpy and all, and it's not difficult to imagine the hardship of the POWs while building the railway, especially around the mountainous areas.

Alighted at the 4th stop, took the bus to have lunch. Next was the Hellfire Pass Museum. It was very impactful because the sketchings and models paired with simplified text could relate very well to the situation during WW2. It started to rain and we had to wait it out. Eventually, we resorted to just running across the parking lot to get to our bus. Didn't get to trek some parts of the Death Railway as earlier planned due to the rain.

Next and last stop for the day: JEATH museum. It's a very simple, open air display on building the Death Railway and depicts the lives of the POWs in the course of building the railway. It was insightful and some parts even gruesome when it showed the Japanese atrocities to the POWs. Didn't stay for too long, boarded the bus and headed back to Bangkok on a 2 hours ride. Nice hotel and all, spent the night playing cards in my room.

So ends second day, better spent.

(To be continued...)
